The Campus Public Safety Office provides emergency response, safety escorts, and patrol services to the campus 24/7. CPSO works with our university partners to ensure that Portland State University is a safe place. Services include Campus Police, Public Safety, Campus Dispatch, Access Control and Clery.

Position Summary

Portland State University Campus Police Officers are responsible for maintaining peace and public safety through enforcement of laws, performing traffic control, and providing emergency services on Portland State University owned and controlled properties. Police Officers must at all times support the Portland State University mission, provide essential law enforcement functions, and respect the right and dignity of all individuals. Campus Police Officers must interact effectively with the campus community (student, faculty, staff, administrators, visitors, and members of the public), demonstrating trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, communication, justice, fairness, caring, civic virtue, and citizenship, while maintaining integrity, ethical values, pride, and professionalism.

Minimum Qualifications from Classification

Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position

-Eligible for DPSST Certification as Basic Police.
-Possess a current Oregon driver's license at time of appointment
-No felony convictions under federal or state law
-No Class A misdemeanor convictions within three years of application
-Must be able to pass the Oregon Physical Abilities Test ( ORPAT )

Preferred Qualifications

- DPSST Certified as Basic Police or higher
-Field Training Officer qualified ( FTO ).

Work Days/Hours Varied Hours (40 hours per week Sunday through Saturday)

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement

The starting salary rate for this position will be between $27.00 and $28.15 per hour, dependent upon qualifications and experience with an excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities.

There is a Police Officer Certification/Degree Pay of 3-5%. Percentage is dependent on certification/degree level.

There is a language differential of $1000 a year.

There is also an Officer Insurance Allowance of $965 a year.
