Job Description:
Sr Real Estate Analyst
W e are currently seeking a Sr. Real Estate Analyst to join the Real Estate Investments team. Pacific Life has provided capital in excess of $10 billion to the commercial real estate market over the last five years in a variety of channels, such as Direct Commercial Mortgage Loan Originations, Structured debt participations such as B notes and mezzanine financing, Commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS), Unsecured debt of real estate companies, including REITs, Direct property development and ownership, and Partnership and fund investments.
Here's what you'll be doing:
Provide analytical and underwriting support for commercial real estate debt investments including whole loans, loan participations, and commercial mortgage backed securities to meet the Real Estate Division's investment objectives. Following the Division's investment policies and procedures, you will conduct research on and evaluate commercial real estate properties and their sponsors in accordance with the Division's underwriting guidelines. You will learn and use specific risk analysis techniques for structuring real estate debt investments and will provide written and oral presentations on a regular basis.
Factors for Success:

  • College degree (BA/BS) with emphasis in Finance, Accounting, or Economics (Master's degree - Real Estate or MBA - strongly preferred).
  • Working experience in evaluation and underwriting of investment risks associated with commercial real estate is desirable ; mortgage origination experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in software applications for real estate investment analysis including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, Argus, and the ability to quickly learn new program applications.
  • Exceptional math and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills.
  • Expertise in the drafting and use of financial formulas in complex financial spreadsheets, as well as the use of a financial calculator.
  • Flexibility to relocate to a field office (Walnut Creek, CA or Chicago, IL) after two years of training (Based on business need and skills)
