Job Description:
Currently, we are seeking a talented AVP of Advanced Analytics to grow and lead the Advanced Analytics area in the Retirement Solutions Division based in Newport Beach, California.  The Retirement Solutions Division leverages its strengths in product development, technology, services and risk management to create retirement solutions for individuals, families, and businesses.  With the guidance of financial professionals, customers have access to an array of annuities and mutual funds designed to help grow assets and to provide retirement income for financial independence.


This individual will be a proven dynamic thought leader in advanced analytics who will further our growth efforts in our Retirement Solutions Division. They will collaborate with the management team to identify and evaluate new business opportunities, drive innovation and implement opportunities for business impact. This is a hands-on role which includes growing and leading talented data scientists while learning the business to best apply analytics. As the leader of advanced analytics you will partner directly with all areas of our business including sales, marketing, operations and finance.


  •  Lead the analytics team in creating high quality analysis for all aspects of our business with heavy emphasis on customer intimacy to drive outcomes through effective decision making.
  •  Hire and develop a highly talented and effective data science team
  •  Define and track data related impacts, patterns, trends, correlations and outcomes
  •  Work directly with senior leadership to establish goals, priorities, and initiatives leveraging Advanced Analytics and Planning
  •  Lead executive-level discussions on opportunities, recommendations and decisions based on data  findings and analysis
  •  Establish a clear and transparent framework for developing, testing, and scaling actionable insights resulting in measurable business impact
  •  Build effective governance, accountability, and processes for Advanced Analytics
  •  Partner with the Data Service and Business Intelligence teams to champion an insights-driven culture for the entire division
  •  Partner with data infrastructure peers and operational managers to identify data gaps and improve data quality


  •  Education in a quantitative discipline such as Statistics/Math/Engineering; MS or PhD required
  •  Solid business acumen to put analytics in the appropriate context while identifying key metrics that measure and drive long term growth
  •  Demonstrated achievements in analytics and data science at prior jobs; will have done in-depth analysis that was critical to driving growth
  •  Proven leadership experience working with Sales, Marketing, Operations and Finance teams
  •  Understanding of A/B testing and experiment design
  •  Experienced in advanced analytics tools, techniques, and trends
  •  Relevant experience with modern distributed data technologies is desirable (Hadoop, Hive, Impala, Teradata, etc.)
  •  Experienced in advanced planning, scenario (WIF) building and constraint modeling
  •  Ability to build trust with business partners and provide leadership to implement change related to the analysis and data findings
  •  Strong ability to build valuable networks and partnerships with vendors, industry peers, and counterparts within the organization
  •  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to tell the story behind the data and the impact on the business.
  •  Proven presentation skills, executive presence, and managerial courage to speak at all levels within the organization
  •  Overall 10+ years of experience with analytics preferred, including 3+ years leading an analytics initiative with proven results
